MICHAEL DARRAGH MACAULEY became the third Dublin player in four years to win the Footballer of the Year award at the GAA/GPA AllStars on Friday night.
“I’m lost here on stage, I don’t know what I’m doing with a Footballer of the Year trophy when Stephen Cluxton was also nominated.

“I suppose I have to take it but I’m lost,” the midfielder told RTE after being presented with the award.
Macauley was nominated alongside Dublin captain Stephen Cluxton and Mayo’s Lee Keegan but was the bookies favourite for the award.
It was double success for Dublin as Macauley’s team-mate Jack McCaffrey won the Young Player of the Year Award and was quick to credit his boss Jim Galvin for his success.
“A lot of credit has to go to Jim Gavin and his management team who’ve been massive all year.
“I was lucky enough to work with him at U21 and we were told to go out there and express ourselves and that led to our success.”
MaCaffrey held off the challenge of Cillian O’Connor (Mayo) and team-mate Ciaran Kilkenny to win the prize.
